Welcome to misery ManorWell I finally took the time to put up a web site for the haunt. The idea for the yard haunt actually started in 2001 while I was stationed in the Navy in San Diego, Ca. Me and my best friend Doug set up a yard haunt at his house and I was hooked. the interaction (Scare factor!) with the trick or treaters was a blast. Me as the Grim reaper and Doug as a large hairy bat creature had more fun than the kids I think. After I retired from the Navy I moved back home to Frankfort, Indiana in 2002. Me and my wife Karen did just the basic props and smoke in 03 and 04, but in January of 2005 we decided to create a home haunt. My wife came up with some names and misery manor was born. While surfing the internet one day I came across Ravenmanor.com his attention to details was my inspiration for Misery Manor. We wanted to keep it creepy not gory. So we decided to go with the horror actors of old on all the tombstones since i am such a fan of old horror shows. 2005 was a busy year for us since the whole cemetery theme was built in 9 months. But we got it complete just in time finishing the mausoleum just a few days before setup. Everything thing the first year went off with out a hitch and the kids loved it. For 2006 the haunt was basically the same but i decided to add the full size horse drawn hearse to the display with motion sensors that caused red strobes, music, smoke and black lights to come on as unsuspecting trick or treaters walked by. It was a fairly large project but well worth it, kids and adults both thought it was great. For 2007 i will be adding a facade to turn my 16 foot garage doorway into Misery Manors mortuary complete with (you guessed it) motion sensors which will activate skeletons trying to break out of the gates with lights and smoke should go over with a scream or two!
